A good bloody historical account
William Dalrymple's history of the East India Company is perhaps more bloody than similar books on this powerful trading company. There is plenty of details on injuries and deaths from the battles described within the pages. Perhaps in his need to focus on the "corporate violence" , the author has failed to give sufficient space to the peaceful establishment of trading posts by the company around the region and the fortunes made by local merchants.
