Everyone knows the hits--"Hanky Panky," "Mony Mony," "I Think We're Alone Now," "Crimson and Clover," "Crystal Blue Persuasion." They are nuggets of rock and pop history. However, few know the unlikely story of how these hits came to be.. Tommy James was discovered in 1966 at the age of nineteen, and was pursued by every record mogul in New York until, inexplicably, every offer but one quickly disappeared. James soon found himself in the office of Morris Levy at Roulette Records, where he was handed a pen and ominously promised "one helluva ride." Morris Levy, the legendary "godfather" of the music business, needed some hits and Tommy would provide them.. Me, the Mob, and the Music tells the intimate story of the relationship between the bright-eyed, sweet-faced blonde musician from the heartland and the big, bombastic, brutal bully from the Bronx, who hustled, cheated, and swindled his way to the top of the music industry. It is also the story of this swaggering, wildly creative era of rock 'n' roll when payola and the strong arm tactics of the mob were the norm, and the hits kept coming..

    Attractive price on a product that I regularly use. On prior orders from many other vendors of this product, the product arrived in a plastic bottle with 60 capsules. This order had the right total number advertised but they came in 30 packages of 2 items each. It is a minor inconvenience since I have very limited storage vs. the plastic bottle.

    If you like 60's music, try it, you'll like it.

    Not the typical musician's memoir. The fact that the Genovese crime family secretly ran Roulette records gives it a whole new dimension. Tommy James worked directly for Morris Levy who also owned the jazz club Birdland and the Roulette Room. It was very interesting watching the dynamic between them. If Tommy had been with any other label, he would have probably been a one hit wonder. Instead, he had 23 gold singles and 9 gold and platinum albums. He had free rein with Levy, even though he was cheated out of millions of dollars in royalties. They have been working on a movie based on the book. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

    Definitely worth reading Tommy James book!

    After receiving my book, I decided to read a chapter or three on Sunday morning.... Before I realized it, Sunday evening had arrived as I finished the last chapter. Yeah!, it's that good! .........Paul
