Fantastically written series.
This series is typical of PBS programming. Well written with lavish period correct settings, and superior acting throughout the seven seasons. The acting is very well done, with a cast that seems to enjoy the company of each other. Being a guy, I wasn't supposed to like this series as much as I did. I skipped the Super Bowl to watch the series finale (no loss to me, I don't care much for football). My wife and I have watched the entire series a couple of times now, and intend to again in the near future. This is what television should be. It's the best of what television has to offer. A look into the past
What is there to write? Either you like period pieces or you don't. I usually do not like watching series, yet I got hooked with the occasional times I would view this series on PBS. I like the writing and the variety of engaging characters. I have always been a fan of Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern, yet the other actors are superb also. I found it to be educational and entertaining. I knew I would want to buy this show, so I would have it in my own collection. I am only on the first season and will view at my leisure. Disc quality
Two of the new discs were scratched, making it impossible to watch several episodes per disc. The show itself is totally engaging, husband & I were entranced from the very first episode ! The characters are totally engaging. The series has rich, breathtaking production values, the costumes are phenomenal, and the house itself is overwhelmingly stunning, of course ! Fans Must Have
The complete series is a must have for every die hard fan of Downton Abbey. Each season is worth re-watching again and again. The special features in each season give you so much insight and behind the scenes information which just adds so much more depth to the characters and storyline. Phenominal TV Series
The cast, clothing, cars, class systems and locations are so meticulously well done, that the viewers are instantly transported back to pre-world war one. It's hard to realize that they were times when electric lights, telephones and even swivel chairs were unheard of. A favorite TV show that I will never get tired of watching
I cant say enough about this series.. I am enchanted by everything about it! The characters, the clothing, the castles, the dialogue... the detail of every single thing is so precise and well done you just cant stop watching! Top drawer!
Can't say enough good things about this show. Everything is so well done: the writing, the cast, the characters...the countryside is beautiful. There are also some epic love stories in this series. Must see.
Beautifully written series, excellent actors and scenery. This series keeps you interested and wanting to see more. The story line looks into the lives of the rich and the servants that work for them. Awesome soap!
