  • Great Book for use with grades 4-6

The color of my words is set in the Dominican Republic and was written by an author from Trinidad. The protagonist is a young woman who is finding her voice as a writer and exploring the power of words in activism and the limits of free speech. This is a book about family dynamics, coming of age, social justice, and activism. The Spanish translation is excellent, and as a bilingual teacher, I love that I can get this book in English or Spanish.
