Ideal for capturing audio on location, for preserving band practice sessions, and for creating raw material for your latest release, the Korg D888 digital multitrack recorder is built around an eight-channel recorder saving data to 8 individual tracks. Featuring analog looks with a digital heart, the unit uses a 40 GB internal hard drive that allows it to record and play back eight tracks of uncompressed 16-bit data simultaneously at 44.2 kHz. Each individual track further allows users to store alternative takes in seven additional virtual slots. With the potential for a total of 64 "virtual" tracks, you have tons of opportunities for choosing among multiple takes so that you can save one that is exactly as you want. The final layer is a small suite of onboard effects, including reverb, that can be used to further tweak and perfect your recordings before exporting them to a computer or other device for further processing. Connectivity to the D888 is straightforward with the ability to utilize either quarter-inch audio jacks or XLR inputs for each of the 8 channels. The industry standard XLR inputs all include 48-volt phantom power, allowing an engineer to use either standard microphones or high-end condenser mics for live recording of drums and vocals. The quarter-inch inputs lead to channel pre-amps that can support line-level input from guitar or bass amps or rack-mounted effects processors. Gain, Trim, and EQ controls associated with each of the mixer inputs allow for pinpoint recording at home or in the studio. In addition, with the touch of a button, the individual outputs provided for each channel can be re-configured to provide stereo Master and stereo Monitor as well as individual outputs for channels 5-8, providing the option to use the d888 as a live mixer for smaller venues. Output options include an S/PDIF jack, a single MIDI output, and a USB 2.0 jack for easy interface with the recording software of your choice. The onboard LCD display can be easily switched from a Level Meter, Recording Menu controls, and an onboard Metronome. Korg is known as a leader in digital recording and pro audio, and their version of an 8-track digital recording studio, with support for up to 64 total virtual tracks thanks to the 40GB hard drive, is a great addition to your live pro audio gear or your home studio.Finally, this digital recorder features durable construction for reliable operation in a dedicated space or at a gig. If you find you need a mobile musical sketchpad, Korg gives you the opportunity to create up to an 8-track mix by simply interfacing with a couple of instruments and a mic, adding some effects, and then saving your creation to the onboard hard disk to be exported via USB or MIDI jacks to your computer or other device later. As music accessories go, this one is hard to beat because its applications for practice, note-taking, and project development are nearly limitless.
