    Great and rare

    The movie is rare and also sad . The main female character living with her evil aunt and being forced to marry for money and position and not love and happiness . Of course times have changed and in some places even in 2016 in some places that still happen. And Helena Bonham Carter came a long way since this movie , and still a good actress . Months ago , I checked out Cinderella at the library and she is this best fairy godmother as yet . Two thumbs up .

    More intense than the BBC version

    Has the advantage of having at least partially been shot on location in Venice. Helena Bonham Carter's performance certainly was Oscar worthy, her intensity in straightforward drama an interesting contrast to the bizarre characters she has been playing in recent years. Made the motivations of James' characters clear, comprehensible, even to our jaded age.
