Drill Doctor Model 750.... the only way to fly
Once you get used to the setup, quite easy to use. Much better to sharpen drills than to be constantly replacing them. Getting the setup correct is the most time consuming part but the end result is worth it. Got the storage case too. Works Great for Me....
I've read several reviews and people complain it doesn't work. I own the 750 model. First it is important to watch the video (available on Youtube) to see how to use it properly. The first drill I did I screwed it up. But after paying attention to what I was doing and using the machine correctly it has worked flawlessly. After 20-30 bits, especially large ones, 3/8 and above, I turn the grinding stone around. It's extremely easy to do and I am wearing the stone down evenly. I spoke with another machinist friend of mine and he recommends changing the stone when your bits began to blue when you sharpen them. He said usually after 475 to 500 bits. The smaller the bits the longer the stone lasts. Obviously, blueing in any metals is unacceptable especially in drill bits. Clearly time to replace the stone. The grinding wheel is inexpensive compared to buying a 64 drill bit set, especially titanium or cobalt. I have sharpened both these types of bits with excellent results. Good sharpener.
This sharpener works well and is easy to use. I have sharpened around 100 bits with it so far; many of them were 1/2" and larger. When used to split points (which I would recommend on all bits for metal), it can be hard on the machine (bogging) on the larger sizes particularly 1/2" and up and any that did not already have a split point. I would recommend using a shop vac in place of the 'grit tube' that is supplied with the machine when either sharpening large quantities of bits or bits larger than 1/2", for the heat generated is most likely detrimental to the machine's front bearing and motor. The cool air circulated through the machine via the vacuum really keeps the machine cool compared to how hot it will get without, and it has the added bonus of cleaning up all the grit. For what this machine costs, it's worth buying if you have a bunch of bits to sharpen vs. buying new, particularly larger bits. The wheel is reversible, so you can get double the life out of it before replacing (after 100 bits, I am considering reversing it). I would assume based on how much, and carefully, that I have used it, that it would last up to 500 sharpenings of mixed size bits before either the bearings or brushes would be consumed.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

Drill doctor drill bit sharper

Was a skeptic!
I had no idea this thing would work as good as is does. You can adjust the angle of the tip (either 118 or 135 degrees). You can make a split point easily, and it sharpens the tip like a razor. I got a used unit in new condition. I figured that I would need to have the "diamond wheel" replaced, but after 30+ bits it grinds them out like magic. I don't know who created this rocking-camshaft design? It is absolutely brilliant and works like a drill sharpening factory. Mind you it only does the tip. It can sharpen bits from 1/4" up to 1/2" (depending on model). I bought a 750, and it does the larger sizes as well. It came with a DVD & instruction booklet that fits nicely in the well molded case that it comes in. Aside from that there are a bunch of instructional videos on YouTube on how to use the thing. It is easy! I thought it would be difficult, or take too much time. But if I have a dull drill bit, it's like pulling out a hair dryer to dry hands. It's super quick to sharpen (even the long 1'-8' long drill bits that I use!). It's absolutely incredible. If you need video go on YouTube and watch away. But as an alarm technician that uses a drill as a main tool, you can trust me on this one. I figured if I didn't like it or if it didn't work I could resell it for $10-$20 less than I paid. There's no way you could buy this thing from me. Just make sure you have one with a new or a newly replaced diamond sharpening wheel. They show you how easy it is to change it as well. It was a good value for me because the 2'+ drill bits that I buy are $25+tax. If I sharpen 4 bits the drill doctor pays for itself. But if I had a quality shop-- instead of using a dull bit I would resharpen them on the fly and finish a nice job with quality as a priority.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Great tool for the workshop
I watched a few YouTube videos on this tool before buying it. I saw a few from folks that didn't understand how to it works and a few that actually read the directions on how to operate it. After watching the few that didn't read or understand how it works, I was a bit undecided, but, after finding a few videos of those who actually understood how it works and posted a good video of what it's meant for, I decided to buy one. It's a great tool... Easy to use and set up and a whole lot cheaper than buying all new drill bits every time I got ready to build something. I have about 200 drill bits. Some the same size and sharpened about 50 of the most used ones in about 30 minutes with this machine. I recommend it to anyone who uses a lot of drill bits, BUT, read the instructions first or watch a positive video and you'll understand the technology behind it's invention. Profitable Investment
This was a great investment for the type of hobbies I do around the house as well as my occupation as an Engineer at a Time Share property. Great tool for a great price from a seller who provided excellent service.
This Drill Doctor 750X Bit Sharpener has turned out to be a good tool investment.. Use it to recover a complete set of drill bits for my brother-in-law who has difficulty maintaining his tools. My 2nd one!
I think these drill sharpeners are great. I got my 1st one in1992 and someone broke it. It is still good but I wanted to get an updated one. Comes in handy when I'm in a pinch and need that size drill. Works perfectly if you do it right!
If you follow All directions you get a perfect sharpening. Easy mistakes are using the wrong groove for setting up the 135 degree sharpening, using the wrong nub on the chuck when setting up the sharpening (both are explained in the manual).
