Another May-December romantic comedy from Wilder starring Audrey Hepburn, this one pairs her with Gary Cooper in the City of Lights. Ariane Chavasse (Hepburn) is the daughter of a private detective (Maurice Chevalier), who has been hired by Mr. X, (John McGiver), a suspicious husband, to find out who his wife (Lise Bourdin) is seeing on the side. When he discovers the woman in the grip of millionaire playboy Frank Flannagan (Gary Cooper), he informs the predictably livid husband who loudly announces his intention to kill the interloper while Ariane is eavesdropping. She rushes off to warn Flannagan of his impending demise, which begins a series of afternoon meetings where she adopts the pose of a jaded lover and woman of the world. Intially amused by the ingenue's charade, the middle-aged roue gradually becomes interested in the young woman, and after she disappears, becomes obsessed with finding her. After he unwittingly tells the story to the girl's father in a steam room, the detective agrees to help Flannagan find her. Wilder's sophisticated romantic fable, shot in spectacular Parisian locations, including the Opera and the elegant Chateau de Vitry, is nearly stolen by Chevalier as the protective pere.

My most favorite Audrey Hepburn movie
The story contains so many elements that young sensible woman's dream and freedom.All the characters engaging their roles, especially, Audrey Hepburn described Ariane just perfectly, so as Gary Cooper. I also loved the "foolish husband"

Witty classic picture
Love in the Afternoon is a witty classic with two legendary Hollywood Golden Age stars, Gary Cooper and Audrey Hepburn. This is a charming romantic picture!

Great movie Bad disc
Somebody did not play this DVD or they would have noticed that it skips I have to go to the scenes section and then run it backwards and then forward in order to see it correctly. Rick

Bad casting ruins this film, which is a shame.
The only problem with this film is that Gary Cooper is far too old for Audrey, which ruins the story line. Maurice Chevalier is exceptionally good, however! A shame this didn't work because of bad casting.

Story didn't work for me
Well, it was a pretty standard romance m o vue, only somehow kind of unconvincing. Don't know why -- Gary Cooper too old? His character not very likable? Giving it away tco the Goodwill.

The title fit the movie
An affair a younger woman and a older man. A time where discretion was important. So it adds planning where and when to meet with lite comedy.

A fun romp with the violinists always bringing a smile.
Enjoyable, although the director of the movie may have been right when he lamented: " I got Gary Cooper the week he became old."

If you're a fan about Audrey Hepburn. you'll be enjoy this one .
If you're a fan about Audrey Hepburn. you'll be enjoy this one but if you aren't and you like classic movies (black and white ) sweet and romantic you will loved it. If you like angels, with this actress is the closest you'll see an angel acting. when this movie was made I was not born yet but it is one of my favorite movies, “ She is charming “
