Amazing performer in XL clothing
Excellent lens, sharp at wide open apertures as others have mentioned. Whether you will notice this extra sharpness compared to a decent prime (like the Nikon f1.4mm AF-D or AF-S) really depends on many other factors: your technique, the conditions, the size of the print or screen etc. And it is big and heavy, it must be said. The ART lens is a masterpiece!
The Art series of lenses from Sigma are making quite a splash for both their build quality and optical performance, and this 50 mm 1.4 is stellar in both areas. It is a weighty item, four ounces shy of 2 lb, but I honestly didn't notice that when I mounted it on my camera. The resolution/sharpness is astounding. Shooting my bookcases, hand-held at f8 at at just over 20 ft, I was able to read the title and author in the spine of a paperback. Sharp right out of the box
The Sigma 50 Art is very sharp. I did not require any autofocus fine tune on my Nikon D850 verified by using Reikan Focal software. The sharpest aperture is f4.5 determine by the software. Fantastic lens at a great value
This lens is super sharp, produces highly useable images even at wide open (F1.4) Focusing is fast and acurate. Construction quality is top notch (though a bit on the heavy side) Great lens for general portraits, pets or kids. Only wish it had image stabilization, then it would be a perfect lens. This lens costs less than half of Nikon 58mm F1.4 or Canon F1.2, and out performs both of them. Did I mention that the bokeh on this Sigma 50mm F1.4 ART is delicious?!

Phenomenal Lens/Exceptional Low Light Performance
I have many fast, sharp lenses, including several considered best in class for their focal length on a Nikon body. None of them compare to the sharpness and unbelievable low light performance of this Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM DG Art lens. I highly recommend this lens. The best 50 mm Lens, it feels like a real lens not plastic junk.

The name of sharpness

Versatile
I just got this beauty. I love the versatility and how much it gives me on my D4 focal points. Nikkor or Nikon lenses are not even half as good as this lens is. Sharpest lens I own.
Everyone should own a Nifty-Fifty and this Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is my second. I have the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 and this Sigma 50mm blows it away in sharpness.
