Director Roland Joffé's FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY is a historical drama about the lives of the participants in the Manhattan Project--the making and perfecting of the atomic bomb that took place in New Mexico during World War II. Paul Newman stars as General Leslie Groves, a hardened and cynical soldier who oversees the project while working with its leading scientist, the brilliant J. Robert Oppenheimer (Dwight Schultz). As the scientists come closer to controlling the awesome force of nuclear power, lives are torn apart and families destroyed by the fear and tension created by the ethical and moral dilemma surrounding the project. This exhilarating and harrowing drama depicts a strange dichotomy between the brilliant but naive scientists who created the bomb and the power-hungry government, who had only an archaic understanding of the way their actions would change the nature of war.

    The Challenge of the Manhattan Project

    Movie does a great job describing the challenge the military had trying to keep the Manhattan Project a secret and at the same time getting the scientists to work impossibly fast, in order to end the war.

    Disappointing movie

    I was very disappointed with the movie. With such a historical event as the Manhattan Project, I expected something better. The screenplay was average, as was the acting. With Paul Newman in it, I expected better. I would NOT recommend it. The only redeeming qualities were the price and the prompt shipping!

    Fat Man & Little Boy Movie

    I have seen what the Fat Man bomb has done to Nagasaki, Japan first hand. Atomic bombs are very destructive. I Have also seen what an Atomic Bomb has done to Christmas Island in the Pacific.

    Good movie

    A mostly historical account of the development of the first atomic bomb. The scene with the Demon Core and aftermath is worth the price of admission. Amazing there was so much knowledge back then.
