It's a real Hewlett-Packard meter, what more do you need to know?
No, this isn't an Agilent or Keysight product (no matter how hard they try to take credit for them). This is a true Hewlett-Packard meter, made back in the days when that name meant something other than computers and printers. This is a wide-bandwidth high frequency version of the 400 family of meters that goes all the way back to the days of hand-wired tube VTVMs with all-tube circuitry. This one is all transistor but built with the same commitment to quality. It is beautifully made and performs flawlessly... no digital readouts here! There is so much more you can do with a real "meter" that is impossible with a digital readout (like tuning, peaking, seeing trends and directions of measurement, etc.). HP 400E analog volt meter
Discreet transistors, fairly easy to replace the electrolytic capacitors, through hole plated circuit board that is probably one of the best I've seen from the early solid state era. My unit was probably a '74 or '75 model according to the date stamps on the parts. Accurate classic analog AC meter.
Great meter for measuring the gain in IF stages or other amplifier stages up to 10MHz. Not the meter of choice if you want to measure non-sinusoidal wave forms like square, saw, pulse or noise. The HP 3400A will do nicely for that. The meter I purchased was calibrated in 6/3/2020 and is still spot on.Bestätigter Kauf: Ja

Fault finding techniques.
I worked with these analogue meters in the RAAF mainly measuring audio amplitudes. You don't have the accuracy of digital but as long as you are within 2 or 3% there is no problem in servicing most equipment. The thing is to understand what you are viewing and apply it to fault finding reasoning. The young in this electronics game today have not the repair ability of the older generation who could and do repair down to component level with fault finding abilities that far out achieve the younger generation.Bestätigter Kauf: Ja
