Product Information

Three-volume boxed set edition lavishly illustrated in full color by Alan Lee One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, The Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth still it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell, by chance, into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. From his fastness in the Dark Tower of Mordor, Sauron's power spread far and wide. He gathered all the Great Rings to him, but ever he searched far and wide for the One Ring that would complete his dominion. On his eleventy-first birthday, Bilbo dissapeared bequeathing to his young cousin, Frodo, the Ruling Ring, and a perilous quest: to journey across Middle-earth, deep into the shadow of the Dark Lord and destroy the Ring by casting it into the Cracks of Doom. The Lord of the Rings tells of the great quest undertaken by Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf the wizard, the hobbits Merry, Pippin and Sam, Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf, Boromir of Gondor, and a tall, mysterious stranger called Strider.

  • the best story ever, see the Tolkien movie and you understand somewhat of where the author comes from.

I have read this trilogy 4 times paper back for every decade of my life starting in my teens. This hardbound edition is fantastic! The illustrations are beautiful and the type is bigger. I am almost 60 so that helps. I can pass this set on to my kids someday, they love this trilogy too. Love it and a great buy!

  • An edition to come back to

I like good-looking books. I like to hold books in my hand. If it's a book I will want to read again because of the story or the language, I want a really nice copy so that I feel that I'm coming back to a treasured friend. This edition of Lord of the Rings, with the A+ illustrations fills all of these criteria. Because of its length, I can pick it up and open it at any point and enjoy it.

This is an early 2000's edition of Lord of the Rings, illustrated by Alan Lee. Beautiful illustrations through out, and the entirety of the book is printed on encyclopedia-quality paper. Very high quality binding, cloth over board, and the dust jackets are beautiful as well.

  • Quality illustrated boxset LOTR trilogy

Excellent books. Bigger size than I realized, heavy box of 3 books, quality paper. Not as many illustrations as I thought, but they are full-page, glossy, quality illustrations.

  • LotR Trilogy by JRR Tolkien

My library wouldn't be complete without these books. Not simple reading, of course, but definitely enjoyable reading and worth the effort. I have 3 teens and we all love these books, along with "The Hobbit".
