The Black Stallion (1979) (The Criterion Collection DVD)
First off, the Criterion Collection DVD is fine quality with a lot of extras. Highly worth getting. The movie itself is one of the most beautiful and moving story of a boy and his horse ever filmed. Very like the book;(read that if you can get a copy). The best parts are the scenes on the desert island and the exciting race at the end. The middle, though nice and well filmed, kind of drag and don't have the same magic. The desert island scenes are the most moving ever filmed. The bonding between the horse and boy is beautiful. The music, especially when the boy finally rides the horse is a thing of true beauty and fits perfectly. The French horns in some parts and the harp in others speaks more than any words. Highly, highly recommended.
