Solid performance, great value!
Was shopping for quite a while for components for a new build. I wanted to do it right and not have to worry about buyers remorse so I checked Newegg, Tiger and Microcenter for the best reviewed components. It's daunting to see all the products and everyones opinions on Intel vs AMD and which board works best with what processor and video card combo. After reading reviews for months I kept seeing this model pop up every so often with awesome reviews but it was hard to find an actual unit. There were plenty of other ASUS boards that got good reviews such as the M5A97 r2.0 and the M5A99FX pro R2.0, but they both had mixed reviews. This was the only model that I could find that had a majority of great reviews. It overclocks well and accepts all of the FX series processors with bios update. The clocking adjustments are fairly simple if you do your research. I bought FX6300 with Coolermaster hyper 212 evo for cooling, added 8Gb kit of the Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3-1600 cl8 ram and for video I went with a Power Color Radeon 7970 3Gb OC card. I am currently running (stable mind you) amd fx6300 at 3.8GHz normal 4.6GHz on boost (during gaming), Crucial tactical running 1922MHz with 9-9-9-27 timings and video card running maxxed out. CS:GO running on all highest settings getting 399FPS in play. Board stays pretty cool under load but you DO need to have good air circulation since it has those awesome heat sinks. I personally have a Antec ONE case with 4- 120mm case fans, 120mm PS fan, 120mm CPU cooler fan and of course 2- 90mm video card fans. I stay pretty cool. Under heavy load processor runs about 53C and board sensors show only a top of 48C. I used CPU-Z to track the upper and lower limits of the performance and at rest, temps fall down below room temp which is about 18-20C. Highly recommend this to anyone on a budget... An awesome board!
This board is a win for anyone building on the AM3+ platform. It plays nice with a large variety of RAM and EUFI BIOS updates are a breeze. The USB 3 works beautifully on the front and on the back of my build which is now running Windows 10. Good once I worked out the bugs.
After trying various parts (power supply, memory, CPUs) I finally has a nice system. Some issues were electrical. Power supply needs to be high quality/within all tolerances. Installed in new gamer case with new power supply, not that combo wasn't part of the problem. Memory should be built for use in AMD systems. Had similar problems with an M5A97 from same manufacturer after superior performance with M4A87 and M4A88 series boards.
