The performance is terrific but it remains to be seen whether the DVD disc may be defective
Ballet and music terrific but had trouble with the video. Picture stopped/froze during play about a dozen times, then resumed. I don't know if this was due to a defective DVD or my DVD player.

The Dance Meets the Music: Everybody Wins
Tchaikovsky wrote several ballets that qualify as among classical music's "greatest hits" for their music alone. For virtuoso dancing as well as passionate, overwhelmingly emotional music, though, SWAN LAKE featuring the magical duo of Rudolph Nuryev and Margot Fonteyn is magical. This DVD features the duo in an iconic performance that will leave you breathless.Fonteyn was at the nadir of her career...prima ballerinas do not have long careers to start with...when Nuryev's defection from the USSR and his determination to perform with her reinvigorated her personally, physically, artistically. Their chemistry is absolutely electric. They seem to be a single, inspired organism on stage. But in an artistic genre in which the female performer is usually the star. Nuryev is a god. Whether you are an aficionado of classical male 's.cars or not, you will know as you watch him that he owns the stage. The leaps, twists, lifts are superhuman. And all the while he is making you gasp at his artistry and his athleticism, he elevates Fonteyn to heights she never thought to achieve. Nuryev not only performed this bit of legerdemain, he choreographed it. If you want to keep a bit of surefire magic close at hand, acquire this DVD...and watch it frequently.
