Desktop Replacement
This is a true desktop replacement with the benefit of being portable. Battery life is not a priority although it gets about 4 hours on a charge when using the integrated video rather than the K1000 adapter. Another advantage is you can upgrade memory, video card, storage. Several connectivity options on this platform are not available on lightweight, long battery life, units. With an upgraded video card this makes a good gaming system.This is a true desktop replacement with the benefit of being portable. This is not a laptop. This a mobile workstation. When you put the two next to each other, you can instantly tell that this isn't simply just a laptop. You have a massive choice of how you want to configure this machine. Interchangeable graphics processor, socketed CPU for upgrade potential. You can put up to 32gb of DDR3 1866mhz memory in this sucker. Mine came with a 3840QM, which is a quad core hyperthreaded i7. An 8 threaded CPU in a laptop. It also came with the optional 1920x1080 display. Truly a must have feature for this machine. The k2000m I upgraded to is truly a treat to use. It chews up gpu tasks like a beast. You just need to remember what a Quadro is designed for. With it's strengths and weaknesses in mind, you should have a fantastic experience using this machine. Great ... This is not a laptop. Great I/O. USB 3.0 with charging. Express Card slot, Display Port, HDMI and VGA options. There are still so many possibilities for this machine despite it being about two years old now. Build quality shows. Its a precision. Its chassis is well thought out and quite frankly over built. The keyboard actually feels great to use unlike a lot of laptops with their squishy cheap keyboards. The trackpad does support gestures and you also get the benefit of having a keyboard pointer. There are a few things that draw this laptop back. Its heavy. If you are looking for a laptop that you can backpack with and not notice its presence, this isn't the machine for you. If you do a lot of work abroad or for travel and need a powerful mobile solution to take with you, this is the laptop for you. If you simply don't want a desktop, this is a great choice. Its processor, memory and graphics potential allow you to do most productive computing with ease. Bearing in mind this is a laptop, it excels at all of this. Price. I paid up around the 300-ish dollar range for mine. It was already one of the higher end units. I spent a bit more to give it the upgrades i desired for it. For example, mine wasn't originally shipped with a backlit keyboard. I wanted that option. I wanted a beefier graphics processor, so I bought a k2000m module. You most likely will want to source a battery when you purchase your machine. If you find them on ebay, its common for them to have a lot of battery wear. These were designed to be used heavily in enterprise related environments. Battery wear is to be expected. Provided the previous owner or company that had the machine before, had the means of having the machine properly maintained and cared for, they should look outstandingly attractive. they have a minimal appearance and the build just oozes quality. Should you buy one? Well... If you aren't daunted by a laptop that weighs almost 7lbs, has liberal battery use, but want a laptop that flaunts substantial and seamless power with a build quality that was engineered to last, Yes. You should. This is laptop is aimed at a very specific market. The power-user who wants uncompromising performance in a mobile form factor. I fit this description, and can firmly say that I am delighted to use this machine. I don't plan on upgrading until it begins to seem long in the tooth.

Very solid. Definitely not lightweight. No idea about battery life as I use it plugged in. I got it to compliment my older XP desktop: photos, music, some video stuff with tapes from an old camcorder. Love it. Multi-tasks without breaking a sweat. The only issue I have with it is the touchpad (and why it's only suited as a desktop replacement). I've tried different drivers, fixes, tweaks and settings. The touchpad is horrible. Worthless. The cursor is absolutely erratic. Jumps around all over the place, hesitates, stops. For some reason even the proper Dell touchpad driver software has the "sensitivity" adjustment option missing. I have several Dells that use the same driver package and this M4700 is the only one with that issue. But since I use it as a desktop, it's not a deal-breaker.Very solid. Definitely not lightweight. Wifi signal is so bad!
wifi signal in this laptop is so bad.. our other laptop & tablet has a speed of 50 mbps while this one can only have 15mbps, worst as soon as you've been using the internet for at least 30 minutes the wifi signal be disconnected.. then i have to disconnect & connect it again to our broadband connection..

Doesnt work perfectly. Sound is bad
I am writing one start because the sound doesn't work well. It is not a perfect condition laptop. I bought it because I wanted to record videos and the audio is horrible. This is not a cheap computer and now I have to sell it for 350 for this reason.
