While queer films have existed since the beginning of cinema, this book focuses on films released after the Stonewall uprising in 1969. Stonewall is considered a turning point for queer politics and representation, and the 50 years since that event have generated an explosion of queer creativity. The book describes significant formal elements of each film and connects them to their interrelated contexts. By moving in chronological order, it introduces a contemporary history of queer film and provides an overview of major developments in LGBTQ communities, cultures, and politics.
