Reviews
This well-presented book is about a here-to-fore little known English ex-pat racing driver named Ken Miles who was so much a part of the Shelby Cobra story that (at least for this fan) it just leaps off the page here and roars on for some 230 (plus) pages., Author Friedman does an excellent job of taking the endurance racing fan into the heart of the sport; especially through his 357 photos. But the 240-page horizontal format volume also shines while taking the casual sports car follower deeper into the sometimes hard-edged, often cruel world of the sport. Ken Miles: The Shelby American Years would make an excellent Christmas present that will keep the reader occupied for many hours of leafing through the pages and digesting the photos., Simply stated, Ken Miles: The Shelby American Years is an enjoyable read and a great look back at motorsports history., Friedman has a talent for portraits, which are another highlight of this book. Whether it's our hero feeling the heat at Road America or working late while welding up a crashed Cobra, these evocative Miles moments are masterfully captured. If you love Cobras and 1960s sports car racing, this marvelous book is a must-have., With Friedman's access to Miles, particularly through his camera lens, Friedman's book is the definitive work on Ken Miles, and will deeply satisfy Miles' longtime and new fans alike., Dave Friedman's book is simply excellent. It is one that everyone with an interest in Ken Miles and Shelby American must read. The photographs, alone, are worth the price but there is so much revealed in the text that it's hard to pick out any one thing. The book must be considered as a whole, and in doing that it is a success beyond words., We get more than expected here, with Friedman making fine use of every one of the 240 pages. Plenty of photographs were drawn from his access at Shelby American, liberally captioned with identification of almost everybody and every car in each., Author Friedman does an excellent job of taking the endurance racing fan into the heart of the sport; especially through his 357 photos. But the 240-page horizontal format volume also shines while taking the casual sports car follower deeper into the sometimes hard-edged, often cruel world of the sport. Ken Miles: The Shelby American Years would make an excellent Christmas present that will keep the reader occupied for many hours of leafing through the pages and digesting the photos.|9781613255971|, It stands as a great and just tribute that honours a gifted driver, who surely deserves to be remembered so accurately and honestly for his outstanding talent, personality and achievements.

Synopsis
Ride shotgun with Ken Miles through the twists and turns of Sebring, Laguna Seca, and Le Mans as seen through the lens of Shelby American photographer Dave Friedman!, Ken Miles is one of the most famous sports car racers in history, and his time at Shelby American was the pinnacle of his career. Ride shotgun with Ken Miles through the twists and turns of Sebring, Laguna Seca, Riverside, and Le Mans as seen through the lens of Shelby American photographer Dave Friedman! The hiring of Ken Miles by Carroll Shelby in February 1963 initiated arguably the greatest pairing of driver/owner partnerships in the history of motorsports. Not only did Shelby hire Competition Manager Ken Miles as an accomplished road racer but also Miles brought professionalism, innovation, and a keen attribute of being able to surround himself with budding, talented individuals. The list of race cars that Ken piloted at Shelby American is nearly unrivaled: the Shelby 289 Cobra, 390 Cobra, 427 Cobra, King Cobra, Shelby Daytona, Mustang GT350R, and Ford GT. Ken dominated the 1964 United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC) racing season by winning 8 of 10 races to secure the Manufacturers' Championship. However, it was at Le Mans where Ken Miles became a worldwide household name. The robbery that was the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans is laid out in excruciatingly accurate detail as Ford royalty Carroll Shelby, Carroll Smith, Homer Perry, Leo Beebe, Charlie Agapiou, Bob Negstad, Carroll Smith, and Peter Miles recall the race and the tragedy that followed two months later. Recapture Ken Miles's career as told by esteemed Shelby American photographer Dave Friedman in this firsthand account titled Ken Miles: The Shelby American Years!, Ken Miles is one of the most famous sports car racers in history, and his time at Shelby American was the pinnacle of his career.
