Best tv classic serial ever!
Superb dramatisation of a classic novel, the best adaptation one could imagine. All members of the cast are excellent, invidious to select anyone to praise most.The soundtrack moves the events along emotionally, the settings and costumes convince as authentic. The story itself has been described as a Northern Pride and Prejudice, but it is richer in my view because there are serious social themes being explored as well as a romance between the main characters. The role of Thornton made Richard Armitage a heart throb overnight, worth seeing for his performance alone. There are interesting commentaries on the making of the film and a long interview with Armitage to add to the enjoyment of the video.

Brilliant drama
This drama captures brilliantly industrial life in the 19th century. Superb acting by the complete cast. Incredibly, enjoyably accurate. A very pleasant change from the usual bland period dramas normally seen. Well done to all concerned. David Wroe.

A wonderful story based in a mill town in the north of England. Its the conflict between the views of a girl from southern England and the grim reality where life for the ordinary working person is a battle to survive each day. Absorbing viewing.

my sister and I enjoy this film and have watched it a few times .we find the actors act as if they were living iat that time it also shows how people lived at time. in poverty very realistic

Brilliant drama
Such a wonderful dvd. It is a fabulous depiction of what life was like and the photography and details are striking. Very happy with my purchase - a drama I can watch over and over again. The characters are mesmerising - so dreamy and romantic.
