The adhesive is the key...
Seriously, what can go wrong with these pads? The electrical connectors or insulation could come off the wires perhaps, if you abuse them. I've never seen that happen, though. Otherwise, the only potential problem is that the adhesive on the pad itself could go bad in time. Since I've never had to use these pads in an emergency situation (thank You Lord), I have some outdated pads for training use. I recently opened a set of pads which were six years past the "expiration" date; the adhesive was still strong enough to stick firmly to a rather hairy chest. That's six SIX YEARS out of date, and still fully serviceable! We are required to change these pads out once they reach the expiration date, but do not toss them. I have long advocated keeping an expired set in my medical go bag for use as a chest seal (for treating open pneumothorax and preventing tension pneumothorax). So if you don't keep them, give them to a cop or whoever who keeps the school's med kit. These are good quality pads with "life" well beyond their expiration.
