Synopsis747 is the thrilling story behind "the Queen of the Skies" -- the Boeing 747 -- as told by Joe Sutter, one of the most celebrated engineers of the twentieth century, who spearheaded its design and construction. Born in 1921 in Seattle, Sutter grew up on a hilltop overlooking the Boeing plant and flying field. It was a thrilling era of open cockpits, silk scarves, leather helmets, and goggles. The challenges of designing and building the world's most recognizable jet airliner
This book is not new - it was released in 2006 and it may seem like a lifetime since then, especially when one talks about jet airliner technology, but this book has a special place in history. While the 747 has historically been the most recognizable airliner to the masses, given that it was "The First" jumbo jet is already a fully compelling story. It becomes moreso when you realize that Boeing didn't recognize the importance of the project until later in its development and nearly went broke trying to complete the project! Fortunately, Joe Sutter did understand its importance and deserves credit for not only spear-heading the design of one of the most significant aircraft of our time, but also authored a fantastic memoir so that we can be reminded of the challenges that are encountered with the undertaking of such an enormous project. If you are one of those folks who are amazed everytime one of these 400-ton beasts gracefully soars over your head, you will also be entertained by how it came to be and how it has shaped our world.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Very interesting
