It's good, but it needs things done to it when you recieve it.
This is a great value for a new to intermediate Player. But be prepared for some upgrades and adjustments. It will need new Strings right off the bat. I put on D'Addario #10s on it. It made a difference in the Tone and is a great improvement on Sound. And since you are changing the Strings, before you do, adjust the Fret Board and get the proper intonation. You will definitely need to do that. Finally, the Tuners are very poorly made. Upgrade those, and you'll have a very nice Instrument.

Great for the price
It is a laminate (plywood) instrument. It sounds great after it's set up properly. It's important to sand the the footprint of the bridge so it mates with to the top of the instrument. After doing this it has good sustain and pretty decent timbre. However - it because it is a laminate instrument, you run the risk of the layers of laminate on the top coming unglued. This happened to me while adjusting the bridge for intonation. When this happened, it also revealed that the gloss black top is some kind of plastic layer, not paint. I've heard that the burst finish has a better sound. My guess it's because the entire top is wood laminate and the plastic dampens the sound. I'm ordering another one, but I'm getting the burst paint job, not the black.

Excellent instrument for the price :)
One of the best value for the money instruments I've seen in a long time. Playable fresh outta the gate or take it up a few notches with a little pro set up (change out the strings etc) It's really a pretty little mandy too. Solid construction, lovely sound. Its really ace for violinists looking to expand their repertoire too. The small fretboard is SOOOO much easier on the hands than say, a guitar. And with the same tuning..it's like picking up an old friend.

worth it
it came all in one piece , it is well built and plays nice but only after you put new strings on it, the strings that come on it not to good one of the A strings had a kenk in it that I could not see and was always out of tune , however after better strings it has really good sounds, strings are not expensive. all in all i like it a lot. jj

Great value
For the price,you simply cannot beat this mandolin. It has a beautiful finish,sounds good,and holds tune well. With some adjustments(setting the bridge height,intonation,and tuning it up)you're ready to play. Highly recommended

Excellent for first time players!
If you want to test your will and your skill to learn the Mandolin, this is perfect. As a guitarist, I have to try to learn the Mandolin. If not possible for me, what a pretty ornament it makes in my music space! (-: Sunburst is the color of my favorite Strat. Good price.

Good Beginner's Model
Enjoy learning how to play it. Took a while to learn how to tune it because I am used to tuning a guitar. Now I am learning the chords!

If you want a good beginner mandolin get one of these to learn on, it sounds really good and is easy to playy
Got it today at 10 am have not put it down yet, plays and sounds so good, what a nice sounding mandolin for such a low price No bad, except my fingers being so big I need to get used to such small neck. This mandolin sounds loud and crisp, I like it a lot!

Damaged Rogue mandolin
I bought this item marked damaged. The neck was broken at the scarf joint. This didn't concern me as I was using just the body for a project. The neck was removed at the body and I replaced the neck with a hand made dulcimer fretted neck of 24" scale length. A undersaddle piezo pickup was added. The mandolin 4 per side tuners were modified for my 3 per side needs. The mandolin tailpiece was retained as it worked quite well for my needs. The final results were everything that I had hoped for. I now have a unique instrument with minimal expense involved.

Excellent value
Buy this mandolin to learn on. I would expect to have the action adjusted and new strings. I lucked out buying mine used with the action perfected and new strings. It's a laminated top, but it keeps its tuning and the sound resonates well. It's quality for being made in China and costing $50. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap way to learn the mandolin. There are plenty of lessons online and it's a very popular and portable instrument. Buy one!
