Synopsis
On May 27, 1864, Union forces under the command of William Tecumseh Sherman attacked Confederate general Joseph E. Johnston and his men at Pickett's Mill in Paulding County, Georgia. Following his defeat at New Hope Church, Sherman ordered Major General Oliver Howard to attack Johnston's flank, which Sherman believed to be exposed. But the Confederate soldiers were ready, and Sherman's supporting troops never arrived. What ensued was a battle that cost 2,100 lives and a defeat that Sherman left completely out of his memoirs. Author Brad Butkovich brings to life through personal letters, newspaper accounts and unit histories the battle that Union soldier and author Ambrose Bierce called "the Dead-Line." Book jacket., The Battle of Pickett's Mill documents the history this Dead-Line battle through firsthand accounts and sources from the Civil War era. I've been a customer at For The Historian's bookstore in Gettysburg many times but this was my first eBay purchase from them. The magazine was brand new, as described, and the shipping cost was reasonable. They shipped the magazine promptly and it was very well packed in a cardboard sleeve. I'll definitely buy from this seller again.

Thanks for your help in making the big decision! Better than described and would buy from again! Shipping and packaging was a spot on. I valued his support in helping me in making my decision. In comparison to all that was available this was the best value. Great communication and went the extra yard to help satisfy his customer. An excellent seller to the eBay community...thanks again! Cheers

  • Only gives the confederate victory on the first day, not the next nine days.

Its a nice job writing about the first day, but stops at Midnight on 27 May 1864. If you want to know the full history of the battle, this is not for you. The battle was fought by Corps, Divisions, Regiments and smaller units on the same ground, until 04 June 1864. But a nice job, outside of a few errors, like lost union burial trenches, there are none. But worth buying for the first days battle.
