Product Information

“The Artist” received critical acclaim all over the world and earned five Academy Awards, including those for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Set in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932, this drama is shot as a silent black-and-white film, a style in which was slowing becoming unfashionable during this period. Leading man Jean Dujardin plays George Valentin, a silent film star who has a chance encounter with a young woman named Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo). With Valentin’s guidance and support, Peppy begins to make her mark on the film industry, earning starring roles as time goes on and her careers flourishes. However, when studio boss Al Zimmer (John Goodman) ends production of silent film, Valentin decides to make and finance his own. This DVD features a variety of extra features, including a blooper reel and interviews with “The Artist” cast and crew. “The Artist” is a refreshing drama that will keep viewers entertained even until the end. The DVD will remind viewers of a bygone age of Hollywood and successfully resurrects a film style that has long since fallen out of favor.

    Oscar winner

    I know this was a huge oscar winner but honestly the story did not enthrall me as expected. It was no tear jerker like downtown abby. Not incredibly engrossing like say the godfather. Not incredibly ironic like sunset boulevard. No great dance scenes like fred and ginger. No great cinematography like citizen kane. I give this a 6 out of ten. Still not sure what others saw in this.

    One of the greats

    Entertaining and brilliant. Must see if you love movies and Hollywood history through the ages. Must see means put down your electronics and enjoy paying attention. There are pretty much no speaking lines most of the movie. Watch and be entertained. Worthwhile

    A great movie.

    This is a GREAT movie. Entirely underrated even by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that awarded it Oscar for Best Picture for that year. This film is not just about the transition from silent to sound, but also about the wave of fear that went through the industry right from the moment Al Jolson sang and said those iconic words "You ain't heard nothin' yet." Well deserved Oscars by those who won, and probably deserved a few more. A must see for film fans.

    The Artist is outstanding

    Totally outstanding film from start to finish. Well deserved of the dozens of accolades and a beautiful homage to a bygone age. The principals are wonderful and the direction just perfect. It's a film to watch over and over again.
