Perfect Standard
I replaced this lens with the XF 35mm F2 lens, and wish I hadn't.
The F1.4 lens is better in all respects than the F2, except in weight and possibly weather protection. You get what you pay for. Yes the F1.4, is more expensive new, but surprisingly there's not much difference when buying the lenses on ebay auction.
It's often said, if it looks right, then it probably works right. Definitely the case with the F1.4. To my mind the F1.4 is the smarter lens, with a sensible filter size, and shaped quality lens hood.
The F2 is said to be faster on auto focus, but with the latest firmware, on most occasions I could find no difference. The focussing ring is also supposed to be smoother on the F2, but here again, whether my F1.4 was a better than average example, I found no difference and the size and control of the F1.4, was either the same or better in most respects.
What matters of course are the final images produced by the lenses. I've not got the technical knowledge of the specialist reviewers. I came to the Fujifilm X system with over 50 years of amateur roll and 35mm film experience, the last 35 years with mainly Nikon cameras - F3, F4 & F5. On switching to digital, I continued with Nikon equipment, finally exchanging my D3 & D700, for the excellent X-Pro1, and latterly X-E2, & X-T1.
To my mind the XF 35mm F1.4 lens, consistently provides some of the best images I've ever produced, and the combination of this lens with the X-E2 body in particular, reminds me of my early days in photography, borrowing my fathers M2 + Summicron camera & lens.
Anybody who knows what they're doing in photography, won't be disappointed if they buy this lens. The standard viewing angle makes for a compact, cost effective lens, and the F1.4 maximum aperture allows you the freedom to take flash free shots in almost any lighting condition, especially with the flexibility afforded by the excellent high iso performance of the latest X series cameras.
Buy and Enjoy!
