Immediately, this film brings you into the heart of the story. The Garvy family in times of hardship struggle to keep and save their ancestral family farm from flooding, foreclosure and an entrepreneurial business owner. Wonderfully cast, each character from the small children to adult is clearly knitted into the fabric of the story and film. The story shows the strong inter family respect and love juxtapositioned with the tenuous existence with floods and greed. Tom Garvey (Mel Gibson) must take outside work to keep the farm as a strikebreaker while his wife Mae (Sissy Spacek) tends to raising the crops on the farm. Directed by Mark Rydell, this strong story brings home the important values of life, love, passion and dedication. The music of John Williams binds the film with just enough empathy and strength without overshadowing the story line. The Garvey's make their personal stand against hardship but in the end gather supportive solidarity . It's God's land for his generations to toll.
This movie is where my heart is as I write this review but Thank God! this movie helped me redeem my soul and not let me give up on ruthless souls and Prayer DOES set one free from greed.
