Pleasurable translation to read. Easy to handle.
I have never heard the Scriptures be so clear and meaningful.
It is very credible to the Greek and Hebrew. They make it easy to understand, while staying close to the original words. No other translation feels as wonderful to hear.
It is a very comfortable size to handle. The pages are a little thin. I cannot use a wet marker, or they will show through. But the pages are not "too thin". Many other Bibles have too thin of pages, and my working man's hands cannot turn the pages. This one is very easy to handle and I can turn the pages while preaching from it. The GIANT PRINT makes it very easy to see without taking glasses on and off. PERFECT!
There are a few significant notes at the bottom of most pages. Just enough. I didn't want a lot of clutter.
It has a stiff and sturdy hard cover, leather-colored with a very glassy finish.
My only complaint is the reluctance of the Christian community to keep up with Jewish scholarship concerning God's Divine Name. It is not YHWH. It is YHVH. There was never any letter "W" in the Hebrew alphabet. It is not pronounced Yahweh; that is a Gentile creation. The Divine Name is Yehovah. Yeho-VAH'.
In John 8:57 Jesus says: "Before Abraham was I am"* Like many other Bibles the NLT inserts the Trinitarian's "I Am" implying that Jesus is using his Father's Name. He is not. He is just saying that he existed from the beginning, before Abraham. The *note at the bottom of the NLT page does offer the correct translation.
A copy of the original Gospels written in Hebrew has been found, which escaped the destruction by the early Roman Church. They are being translated now. I hope that in the near future new translations will respect the texts used by Jesus' original Jewish followers, and our Scriptures will be freed from the Greek-Roman modifications. Until that day the NLT may be the best Bible we have for now.
