A Texas oil billionaire (Burt Lancaster, the Academy Award winning star of From Here to Eternity ) attempts to buy out a remote Scottish fishing village for an oil refinery, and sends ace dealmaker Mac (Peter Riegert: Animal House, The Mask) to secure his property rights. However local eccentric Ben Knox (Fulton Mackay, Britannia Hospital) refuses to sell his beach shack and Mac is forced to negotiate on Bens terms. An acclaimed comedy from writer/director Bill Forsyth (Gregorys Girl), Local Hero ranks as a British classic in the great tradition of films like I Know Where Im Going! and Whisky Galore! and provides a witty contrast between urban Texas and rural Scotland. It also features a superb soundtrack by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.

So great!
Loved watching this movie again. Anyone with some scerric of Scottish blood would enjoy watching more than once. I first saw it in 1988 on telly. Great to now own my own copy. Watched last weekend, and look forward to enjoying it again in the not-too- distant future.

Movies that stay in your heart because of the soundtrack are common for this time. This is one of them but it has a great story to it.
