The Seagate Exos X14 drive runs too hot to trust Help! do I need to return this hard drive?
It was a great price. It runs extremely hot and I don't trust its durability. It is slow compared to my 12 terabyte WD. I have the drive in a 5 bay enclosure non-raid. It runs 2 to 3 times hotter than the WD and my other 8 and 5 terabyte drives. I purchased an additional fan for cooling. I did not answer the question about reliability because I am not sure. If Seagate tells me it's okay to run hot with noise perhaps I would be okay. I had planned to make it my go-to drive for storing my pictures. HIgh capacity at a good price
Upgraded my Synology DS21+ with a pair of these - so far, so good. A bit noisier than the 4TB WDs they replaced. THese are reconditioned, manufactured in 2019 - hope they will last another 5 years of light use!
