Reviews"I have known Scotty Bowers for the better part of a century. I'm so pleased that he has finally decided to tell his story to the world. His startling memoir includes great figures like Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. Scotty doesn't lie-—the stars sometimes do—-and he knows everybody ."-—Gore Vidal "Scotty Bowers's memoir is a jaw-dropping firsthand account of closeted life in Hollywood during the '40s and '50s. The wholesome image of the post-war American family was acted, written, directed and designed by people for whom such a life was never possible and Bowers writes about their pain and brilliance with the childlike wonder of Chauncey Garndner. Turner Classic Movies will never quite look the same."-—Griffin Dunne, Actor/Director "They said he'd never talk — but at long last, the legendary Scotty Bowers has told his story, with all the honesty, compassion and insight that made him a confidant of movie stars, directors, billionaires, and politicians. Bowers knew Hollywood like no one else, invited behind closed doors to observe firsthand the true stories of America's dream factory. This is juicy, juicy stuff — but just as importantly, it's a seminal chapter of American popular culture that gives us a richer understanding of the people, times, and culture of Hollywood's Golden Age."-—William J. Mann, author of Kate: The Woman Who Was Hepburn and How To Be a Movie Star: Elizabeth Taylor in Hollywood, "I have known Scotty Bowers for the better part of a century. SynopsisNow the subject of the hit documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood , praised by Vanity Fair as "full of revelations" and Entertainment Weekly as "deliciously salacious," Full Service is the remarkable true story of Scotty Bowers, the "gentleman hustler," during the heyday of classic Hollywood. Newly discharged from the Marines after World War II, Bowers arrived in Hollywood in 1946. Young, charismatic, and strikingly handsome, he quickly caught the eye of many of the town's stars and starlets. He began sleeping with some himself, and connecting others with his coterie of young, attractive, and sexually free-spirited friends. His own lovers included Edith Piaf, Spencer Tracy, Vivien Leigh, Cary Grant, and the abdicated King of England Edward VIII, and he arranged tricks or otherwise crossed paths with Tennessee Williams, Charles Laughton, Vincent Price, Katharine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, Errol Flynn, Gloria Swanson, Noël Coward, Mae West, James Dean, Rock Hudson and J. Edgar Hoover, to name but a few. Full Service is not only a fascinating chronicle of Hollywood's sexual underground, but also exposes the hypocrisy of the major studios, who used actors to propagate a myth of a conformist, sexually innocent America knowing full well that their stars' personal lives differed dramatically from this family-friendly mold. As revelation-filled as Hollywood Babylon , Full Service provides a lost chapter in the history of the sexual revolution and is a testament to a man who provided sex, support, and affection to countless people., Now the subject of the hit documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood , praised by Vanity Fair as "full of revelations" and Entertainment Weekly as "deliciously salacious," Full Service is the remarkable true story of Scotty Bowers, the "gentleman hustler," during the heyday of classic Hollywood. • Batten down the hatches...

I expected this 'tell-all' book to drop famous names, but I was stunned by the sheer number of celebrities the author met and uh... did business with... from the 1940s and even up to the 1980s. And no, the author didn't have sex with them all--he just had fascinating stories to tell about his adventures with many stars in the golden Hollywood days. The text is undeniably readable and intriguing, and the tone is unabashedly candid and what I would call rather modest. Even the personal history he includes is interesting and serves the purpose of explaining how he arrived at his place in the secret history of Hollywood. I won't spoil the fun by listing any of the many names who played a part in his stories, but even though I expected certain ones to pop up, I was unprepared for how many are in the book and by the numerous 'surprise' names I wasn't expecting. This book is lots of fun whether you believe it's all true or not. It doesn't really matter. It's just such a treat to get absorbed in Scotty Bowers' reminiscences! If you like old Hollywood gossip... here's your book! The author's photos included are a nice bonus.

  • Good Hollywood Trash

Whether or not there is an ounce of truth in the book, it is a fun read. For sheer silliness, you can't beat it. However, do yourself a favor and buy a used copy online.

  • FULL SERVICE BY SCOTTY BOWERS

Fantastic book about the sex lives of the Hollywood stars from the 40s and 50s from a man who started it all. It also tells about what Hollywood was like back then. Fascinating and candid. Highly recommended!

  • Not as advertised

I believe material within this book has been edited. Within a documentary featuring the writer, mention was made of Bette Davis, including pics of Merle Oberon and Deborah Carr, Ava Gardner and Lana Turner. None of these characters besides a brief mention of Lana Turner was mentioned.
