Does the trick
I have had 1 of these for a couple of years. I broke it because I left it on my kayak when I tossed it on my roof rack. Other than that very durable. Pretty easy to take on an off my yak. Yakclips review
It doesn't have a good enough grip/lock on the yak. You'd have to put it/slide it somewhere else, other than right on the side. The paddle will hit and knock it into the drink, like I did.
