Synopsis"A deep, heartfelt portrait of a family." -- Alexander Chee, The New York Times Book Review "Lydia is dead. But they don't know this yet." So begins this exquisite novel about a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee, and her parents are determined that she will fulfill the dreams they were unable to pursue. But when Lydia's body is found in the local lake, the delicate balancing act that has been keeping the Lee family together is destroyed, tumbling them into chaos. A profoundly moving story of family, secrets, and longing, Everything I Never Told You is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another. "Wonderfully moving...A beautifully crafted study of dysfunction and grief." -- The Boston Globe, A New York Times Book Review Notable Book of the Year * A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice * Winner of the Alex Award and the Massachusetts Book Award * Named a Best Book of the Year by NPR , San Francisco Chronicle , Entertainment Weekly , The Huffington Post , BuzzFeed , Grantland Booklist , St. Louis Post-Dispatch , Shelf Awareness , Book Riot , School Library Journal , Bustle , and Time Our New York The acclaimed debut novel by the author of Little Fires Everywhere and Our Missing Hearts "A taut tale of ever deepening and quickening suspense." -- O , the Oprah Magazine "Explosive . . . Both a propulsive mystery and a profound examination of a mixed-race family." -- Entertainment Weekly "Lydia is dead. But they don't know this yet." • Excellent Little Book with Big Ideas

Excellent book. Easy read. Addresses deep matters in a direct and not-too-heavy manner. Recommended by my 28 year-old nephew, I'm a 50 year old woman, so good all-around.

  • Good quality

It’s such good quality for such a cheap price! I read chapter one so far, and man I just want to keep reading more! So interesting with the characters being different from each other and also keeping secrets from each other. Muy sabroso and fun to read and really really interesting

  • A story of lonely and isolated children

Kids are cruel! When your dad is Chinese and your mother is not your life can be very lonely. An ambitious mother and a father who feels like an outcast definitely project this onto their children. Escape is the only answer.

  • Story of a family who has suddenly lost a teenager.

In the very first sentence, we find out that a girl has died. It remains a mystery how or why. Then the story unravels of what led up to the day she died, as seen through the eyes of her parents and brother and sister. It's a story about families and secrets and favoritism, and hurts that result from a lack of open communication.

  • Hooked

I was enthralled from the beginning, and enjoyed the varying points of view in the narrative. It captures, in my opinion, what it is like to be a human, with our flaws, sometimes blinding emotion and questionable decision making, our need to find acceptance. Shipped quickly, in excellent condition.

  • Great way to "share" books

I like that I can get a fair price on a book and help others (goodwill donation) - Reuse and sharing books makes me happy.

  • Great book-BUT depressing do be aware.

Wonderful book--writing and story. .Couldn't put down till finished. But if you have a depressed nature and use books as escapes..as I do...this is not the content for you.

  • This is a page turner!

I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. I especially enjoyed the depiction of growing up in the US and looking different than everyone else.
