Chicago Area 60s' Band As Good As The British Invasion
The New Colony Six were something of a cult favorite to those of us living in the Chicagoland area during the 60s. Their early hits like "I Confess", "I Lie Awake" and "I Love You So Much" were played regularly on Chicago radio stations but probably never made much of an impact on the National stage. Yet these tracks along with 'B' sides like "Let Me Love You" were catchy tunes that I'll always associate with walking down the halls of my high school during the 60s'. Then when the band released tunes like "I Will Always Think About You", "I Want You To Know", "Things I'd Like To Say", and "I Could Never Lie To You" they elevated to the National stage with beautifully arranged ballads that were as good or better than those of The Turtles and The Association, who were putting out similar material. This collection has some filler material that I could do without but keep in mind during the 60s' a great many bands were releasing albums with only a hit or two and then a bunch of throw-away tracks. Some of these tunes are what I'd call throw-away tracks. But the CD also has every New Colony Six hit plus a few surprises. Highly recommended for fans of 60s' ballads. If bands like The Turtles, Association, Cryan Shames, The Buckinghams, or Paul Revere And The raiders are your cup of tea than this CD deserves a place in your music library.
