Incredible fimmaking
Even though this is a tough movie and reaches some dark places, it is incredibly paced, well written, acted and directed. John Boorman is at the top of his game and the stars of the film as well. To many good things to say about the entire production. They don't make films like this anymore. Story and characters carry this film, not special effects and over editing. Zigmond's Cinematography is incredible. This is a really good print for DVD. Additional extras make it a nice version to own.

A river ride fishing trip turns into a nightmare
This one seems to have become an obscure classic nowadays. But when I first saw it, it left a lasting impression that has stuck through with me most of my life. Way before it's time by today's standards, this one is an absolute masterpiece of visual filmaking that has no peer and a true classic 'thriller' in every sense of the meaning.. From the first minutes of the film the story takes the viewer on a uphill, downhill ride through the deep woods. You don't know where you're going, but can only hear the voices of the passengers of the vehicles progressing through the seemingly benign passage. After some time you realize the characters are looking for guides to take them to a lesser known trail that will allow them to find the river. Hidden deep within the American woodland. I won't give the movie away by telling you the viewer who has never experienced this film for themselves what happens. But I'll just give you a special note that the man that plays the Sheriff at the end of the movie is the actual writer of the story. Who does such an amazing job it's a seamless.performance. Based on a book by the same name. I will ad if you're going to watch. Sit back and get ready for a life changing experience.

Grabs the viewer from beginning to end. Worth viewing!!
A movie that certainly has a dark side, but is well done with believeable characters and a story that grabs you from beginning to end. Read the book and think the movie did it justice. Exciting and engaging.

Happy...
I'm happy with this movie. Was a good value on an old movie that i watched as a kid with my dad, wondering...does this stuff really happen? LOL! But it was a classic I always wanted and it's a real movie...not a huge fan of computer generated bs, Definitely worth the price.

OLDIE BUT A GOODIE
I RARELY GO TO MOVIES, THIS ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD ON THE BIG SCREEN, I HAVE A 52 INCH FLAT SCREEN SO WAS OK,,,IT IS A OLD MOVIE, BUT STILL GOOD ENTERTANMENT TO WATCH, THE CHARACTERS WERE TRUE TO LIFE

Truly a classic.
After I saw this film I began to read more by James Dickey. Now I am a fan. Also introduced me to John Boorman who directed Excalibur. So much talent!

Disc froze solid about 2/3 thru the movi...
Disc froze solid about 2/3 thru the movie. Tried several things to “clean” it so that it would advance but not luck at all.

Movie came to me in the time I was told. Haven't watched it yet.
I gave it a five-star rating because it came in good time. The disc seems free and clear. But I haven't watched it yet. Have a couple of movies ahead of it. But from what I hear, it's a classic. Mark

Good movie
It’s an older movie classic with Burt Reynolds and John Voight! Two very good actors in one of their first movies!
