A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!!
Even though I haven't finished reading it, what I've read so far is so compelling and a real eye-opening experience. My husband has been after me (kindly) for years about our house. Although it's not so much surface "stuff" that's visible, it's what's behind the closed doors and drawers and inside boxes! We live in a small house as empty nesters and I've never done anything about it to cause less stress and anxiety. I want to finish reading it, then I will go back to the chapter to start de-cluttering our living room, item by item. We have an autistic adult son who is non-verbal, and although he's shown a particular trait since he was very young, he still shows it today when he comes home to visit, which is as follows: anything on the kitchen countertops, he always shoves them in a corner to clear more space (his visual concept), or in the bathroom he would take everything off the counter/sink top area and put everything in the trash can ... just to give you an idea of the habits he has. NOW I'm seeing more clearly how it has even affected him! I have saved so many nice things over the years to use later on, or maybe if we ever moved to a bigger house I could incorporate these things into the house. Another misconception I've had has to why I leave "stuff" on the countertops in my kitchen, table tops, etc., is because I have don't have enough cabinet/storage space. Wrong thinking all of these years. Thank you for this book. I have lived with stress and anxiety long enough! I can hardly wait to start on my living room first -- woo hoo!
