James Garner stars as an army master sargent arriving at his last post before retiring. Sgt. Major Zac Carrey (Garner) has a bid in on a fishing boat he wants to buy so he can spend more time with his wife LaDonna (Shirley Jones) and his son Billy (C Thomas Howell). His base commander tries to get him to stay on but he's ready to put in his papers if he gets the boat. The one interesting part of his story is that he owns a fully operational WWII Sherman Tank that he restored along with the help of his son. Zac's bid is accepted for the boat and he wants to celebrate with his wife, but his wife tells him that she is hosting a meeting of the NCO wives and why doesn't he have dinner in town.. In the next scene Zac is sitting at a bar in town having a beer and talking to a local young girl (Jennilee Harrison). He's telling her about the boat and offers to sing her a song in the key of Z flat. His singing interrupts a game of pool being played by one of the local sherrif's deputies (James Cromwell) who gets into it with Zac. After Zac (Garner) punches out the deputy for roughing up the girl unnecessarily he leaves the bar. Later, his son is framed by the local sherrif (G D Spradlin) because of his deputy showing up with a bruised face. Zac tries to reason with the sheriff but ends up "bringing up the heavy artillery" ...

This movie Tank has a type of heavy weight title and the best.
It is a very good movie with all actors doing their best in every scene. In the end the mayor gets the worst possible action he so deserves. I do enjoy this movie.

Oldie, But Goodie
Even though this movie is several years old, it is still relevant to today's issues. It's entertaining and funny and can be enjoyed by the entire family.

i like james garner and this was a good, not great, movie.thought the tank idea was unique idea. good escape, easy going saturday afternoon watch.

A great movie. I got to watch some of the filming of the movie on location and met James Garner. I think you would enjoy this movie.

A great classic movie
I had this movie in VHS tape and I am now upgrading to DVDs and this was a must buy movie.
