Synopsis
A brilliantly imaginative and poignant fairy tale from the modern master of wonder and terror, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is Neil Gaiman's first new novel for adults since his #1 New York Times bestseller Anansi Boys. This bewitching and harrowing tale of mystery and survival, and memory and magic, makes the impossible all too real... A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn't thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she'd claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse where she once lived, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy. A groundbreaking work as delicate as a butterfly's wing and as menacing as a knife in the dark, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is told with a rare understanding of all that makes us human, and shows the power of stories to reveal and shelter us from the darkness inside and out., A brilliantly imaginative and poignant fairy tale from the modern master of wonder and terror, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is Neil Gaiman's first new novel for adults since his #1 New York Times bestseller Anansi Boys. The package was delivered late because it went to the East Coast from Kansas before coming to the West Coast. However, Reliant Book Store maintained constant communication with me and was very helpful throughout the process. The three-volume series arrived in the exact condition that was advertised. These were first-edition books that replaced the stolen ones. I am satisfied with my purchase and recommend Reliant Book Store to anyone looking for excellent used books at reasonable prices.

High quality book arrived in good condition as described. The book's appearance is satisfactory. A great value! Shipping: Seller shipped promptly. But I received an eBay message saying: USPS made a delivery attempt but were unable to proceed due to an insufficient address. Huh? Also, shipping history said book was "Held at Post Office At Customer Request." I didn't request this to be done! Next day I went to my USPS office. They fished around & found package. My address was correct. Weird.

Received today and the packaging was very secure to minimize any potential damage during shipping. Took a few more days than expected…about 10 days from order but received is perfect shape. The quality is very good, other than a slight wrinkle on the cover, the books brand new…better than described plus the price was SO much better than competitors! Job well done - recommend seller!

  • You simply must read this book if you love good fiction!!

Neil Gaiman has done it again! Maybe better than ever before. It is not a very long book, but every page is engaging. A man returns to his hometown to attend a funeral and ends up taking a trip down memory lane. His family is overtaken by a woman who is really someone (or something else) and the boy finds refuge down the lane with his neighbors. There is an element of fantasy to this book, but it is sure to please anyone who loves amazing fiction.

  • Wicked fast delivery of hard to find book

So glad you had a copy of this Neil Gaiman book. Amazon wanted an obscene amount of money. You’ve made my 12-yr old Gaiman fan very happy. Love this story - suspenseful and supernatural yet wonderfully human story of the power and frailties of family. Thanks!

  • My favorite novel of the last 10 years.

If this story doesn't make you tear up, laugh, and reminiscent about your own childhood, you might not have a soul.

  • One of my favorite Gaiman books! And I've read most of them.

This book was in "good" condition, with some pen underlining and notes in the margins, mostly at the beginning. I loved the story itself. Like other Neil Gaiman books I've read, this, too, can be read more than once and enjoyed the second time around.
