Controversial rapper Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) makes his big screen debut with 8 MILE, a bracing drama directed by the increasingly audacious Curtis Hanson. Set in 1995 in the bleak, urban battle zone of Detroit, the film follows the struggles of a young man who is desperate to make a better life for himself. Jimmy Smith, Jr., better known as Rabbit, is destined for a life of squalor. Living in a cramped trailer with his deadbeat mom (Kim Basinger), Rabbit works in a factory to make ends meet. His only outlet is hip-hop. Possessing a talent for freestyle rapping, Rabbit still hasn't managed to unleash his true potential. But his best friend, Future (Mekhi Phifer), is determined to make that happen. Future forces Rabbit to enter a freestyle battle that he blew the week before, giving him another chance at redemption. Hanson's stellar portrait of lower-class urban disillusionment, shot with uncompromisingly gritty realism by Rodrigo Prieto, proves that the issue is no longer about race, it's about money. Eminem delivers a bold performance as the troubled youngster who is still trying to find his place in a harsh, cruel world.

Inspirational film
Very intense movie, with lots of cussing and fighting. But the overall message is amazing. And Eminem does such a great acting job as “‘rabbit’Jimmy Smith”. Totally worth watching! Bonus features include a backstory on the film and Eminem mentions how he actually grew up in Detroit.

Brings Back SoOo Many Early 2000s Memories
I’ve loved Eminem and his music since I was in middle school. Watching this movie brings me right back to those high school days and the best times of my life! And besides that, it’s a totally awesome movie. Eminem kills it!!

The movie is gr8 BUT...
The movie is great but it doesn't play all the way thru it skips in the middle so I'm not able to watch the whole movie but other than that it's great!!!

Eminem in the 8 mile.
Good movie. Everything Eminem does is awesome. Bought it for my brother. He really likes it too. Great DVD great price. Brand new sealed in the plastic.

Great
the price was great.the movie is excellent.Emiem overcame alot of obstacles to become a great rapper. He is an inspiration to me . The soundtrack is fire.A instant classic.

Not the right dvd!
When I opened the DVD case, I expected 8 mile, but that’s definitely not what I got. The dvd inside was not 8 mile it was a slim shady lp disc!

Very satisfied
My son has been rapping all the rap battles (found on youtube). He has been asking for this movie. I couldn't fiND it any where so I looked on ebay. Found it at a very decent price and we received before the estimated arrival date. Very satisfied!! Thank you!!!

Engaging for fans but narrow timeframe
Very engaging story of his Struggles with artistic expression but I was a little disappointed it only covered a very narrow time frame during the begining of his discovery and recognition. I was hoping for a broader time range continuing into his early success.
