It Does Victor Hugo Proud
Les Miserables is the Epic French adaptation of the classic Victor Hugo tale of the small-time criminal Jean Valijean in 18th-Century France. Forced to endure poverty, imprisonment, and torture for stealing a loaf of bread to help his sister's family, his life is changed by the kindness of a Bishop whom he was also going to rob after his release from prison. He tries to mend his ways, but is hounded by the vengeful police inspector Javert, who is determined to put him back behind bars. This powerful saga of injustice and redemption, captures the journey of a man swept up in the chaos of a world in turmoil, and the faith that can save him. This Italian production, spoken in French with expertly dubbed-in English, is an excellent version of the story. It is NOT the musical version, so do not buy this movie expecting to hear 'I Dreamed a Dream'! Throughout the whole 210-minute movie the characters are well portrayed by the actors.
