Years later, Roman commander Messala (Stephen Boyd), who was brought up in Judea, takes command of the Roman garrison in Jerusalem. His Jewish boyhood friend Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston) greets him. Messala is delighted. But when Judah refuses to name Jewish patriots, Messala sentences him to the slave galleys and imprisons his mother, Miriam (Martha Scott), and sister, Tirzah (Cathy O'Donnell). Judah vows revenge.In BEN-HUR, William Wyler's much-lauded epic, the story of Judah's search for his mother and sister and his quest for revenge intersects with crucial biblical events such as the Sermon on the Mount and the crucifixion. Wyler gets fine performances from Heston, Boyd, Jack Hawkins (as a Roman admiral who befriends Judah), and Hugh Griffith (as an Arab sheik who dreams of racing his beautiful white horses against Messala). Among BEN-HUR's vivid dramatic sequences are a violent sea battle and the famous chariot race that pits Judah against Messala in one of cinema's great action sequences.

    Ben-Hur Still Reigns Supreme

    Ben-Hur has been one of my favorite action (and "historical") films since it first came out in 1959--now almost 70 years later! I had the privilege at the time of seeiing it in CinemaScope on a screen designed for the express purpose of showing off that (at the time) newly-developed film projection format along with full stereophonic sound. To have a copy of that ground-breaking film now on Blu-Ray is fantastic--and it carries all the scope and color and drama that I remember seeing in the theater. Plus this set included the DVD version,, so I can compare the difference in clarity and definition that exists in the higher-definition version of Blu-Ray. Pair that with home theater sound, and I felt like I was back in 1959 all over again. All I needed to add was popcorn!

    Great Movie

    I just love this great movie, & most that seen it will agree...Charton Heston is the best at this kind of story telling acting...this is a must have for your classic collection of movie videos.
