Fun, great sounding instrument
The Kala MK-B Makala Baritone Ukulele is a great sounding instrument. It has a nice deep tone with good volume and plenty of midrange tones. It came with Aquila Nylgut strings which sound nice. The tuning is standard DGBE like a guitar but minus the two lower E and A strings. Though there is a touch of brightness in the higher B and E strings, there is less brilliance than you get from a guitar due to the non-metal strings, so the overall sound is a bit darker, more mellow. Search YouTube for videos of this instrument, and you'll hear it for yourself. It's really a pleasant sound. The instrument is playable right out of the box. As for the action, mine is great at the nut but a little high as you go up the neck. I took it into a local music store, and they confirmed this; they said they ... I took it into a local music store, and they confirmed this; they said they could lower the bridge by 0.5 to 1 mm at my next change of strings. Even with the higher action, the intonation is off only very slightly at the 12th fret. I generally play standard chords near the nut or with a capo, so the effective tuning is bang-on. The strings are easy on the fingers, and the uke is a lot of fun to play! The lower-pitched strings (D and G) are wound strings which have a shorter shelf life than the others, so my next string change may be soon. I'm considering D'Addario Titanium strings which are supposed to be brighter; they have gotten excellent reviews. If I go with these, I may update this review after using them for a while.

Pleasantly surprised, good value for the money
A good value for the price. I'm quite satisfied with it. Good resonance, a little lacking on the high end, but it makes up for it with a really good low end considering its size. The frets are smooth no sharp edges. The action is a little high, though maybe great for people with a little more finger strength. but the bridge and nut are easy to take out and reduce with a little sandpaper I have mine down to where I think it's pretty much perfect about a millimeter off the frets. And while the body has no decoration, the finish is smooth and the wood grain is quite lovely. I'm very pleased with it, it's much more than I expected for the price. The strings that come with it are marginal. I kind of expected that. Buy a modestly expensive set of classical guitar strings. You get much better ... A good value for the price. Most people might use the top four, but I use the middle four tuned the same as the middle four on a guitar. I think a baritone ukulele sounds great with the middle four and, despite its size, it has the body to reproduce the lower tones quite well. Guitar chord charts work just fine, just use the middle for strings in the guitar chord charts. This is a good option for children learning to play as their hands can fit the neck and the four strings and the transition when their hands are larger to the guitar is reasonably easy since the cords are the same they just have to learn the high and low outer two strings. Anyway, it's a nice value for the money and is much better looking than I ever expected in this price range.

bargain with higher-end sound quality

It’s okay to learn on
The top is laminate wood. It has a baritone ukelele sound. I am a beginner. The quality and skill of my playing might not bring out the instruments ring. But, I would recommend it as certainly adequate and it stays in tune after not using it for a day.

Warm and rich sounding
It sounds good. It's a very warm sounding uke with lots of bass sustain. Tuned as a classic baritone it sounds like a good guitar. Tuned GCEA it sounds dreadful. Although it sounds nice it's very cheaply made. Tuning machines are not very good and has no kerfing holding it together. Finish on mine is good and it looks nice. I do enjoy playing it and its warm and rich sound. For its price it gets 4 stars and is recommend.It sounds good. It's a very warm sounding uke with lots of bass sustain.
