The decisions you make will affect how the other characters in the game interact with you, with individuals from the film series growing to admire and respect you throughout the storyline. Crucial to the gameplay is the idea of “respect,” a special Godfather stat that allows Aldo to level up and to gain new abilities. This statistic is developed through everything you do throughout the story, from extorting a business for a cut of the action to successfully flirting with women to gain information. When your respect is high enough, fellow mobsters will fight alongside you; it's even possible for bribed police to take your side against other cops.The Godfather: The Don's Edition on the Sony PlayStation 3 offers several ways to go from Street Soldier to Don levels through fear and intimidation as you gain control of the streets of New York. Features include the potential to talk to specific characters to get the skinny on dirty cops, information on how to take down two additional revised compounds of rival families, five new contract hits, and the ability to call in larger Corleone hit squads when you need a little help from the family. With an ESRB rating of M for Mature, the themes of violence from the Godfather films stay true in this game.Follow the path of an Enforcer or an Operator. Each has its own unique perks and abilities to earn. Both melee and third-person shooting combat are vital to your takeover of the New York crime syndicates. The Blackhand melee system offers light, heavy, and direction attacks to batter shopkeepers and to kill fellow made men, and the PlayStation 3 version of the game even features exclusive SIXAXIS combat. By tilting the controller, you can dodge punches and counter with your own perfect hook.The open world map means that you can go where you want and when you want. As you work your way up the ladder of organized crime, you'll spread your empire from the starting area of Little Italy all the way through Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Hell's Kitchen before finally taking control of Midtown and becoming the Don of New York.
