"Puchner's well-constructed tale of a house of pain built on a foundation of secrets echoes Updike and Easton Ellis." --Peoplemagazine, 4 stars, "Eric Puchner'sModel Homeis 1980s California in a nutshell: bright and frantic, giddy and broke, desperate and strong and always, always moving." -- DANIEL HANDLER, author ofAdverbs, "Puchner's well-constructed tale of a house of pain built on a foundation of secrets echoes Updike and Easton Ellis." -- People magazine, 4 stars, "Puchner is an extraordinarily talented writer... a master of mood and tone, able to make moments of pure hilarity follow heartbreak with the seamlessness of real life."--Boston Globe, "Model Homeis a fantastic follow-up to Eric Puchner's remarkable story collection,Music Through the Floor. Puchner is such a tremendously skilled writer, you barely notice how deftly he slips between points of view, how he creates characters that are so real their yearnings and failures become your own. This is a heartbreaking yet consistently funny novel that wraps its arms around all the beauty and tragedy of the unfulfilled American dream." -- STEPHEN ELLIOTT, author ofThe Adderall Diaries, "The only conclusion to come to after reading this novel is that Eric Puchner is a massive talent…Each character is perfectly drawn and deeply interesting. Go read this book." -- McSweeney's, "The subject of this marvelous novel is nothing less than the soul of the American family, in which love sometimes hides inside estrangement and survival can be a choice made under duress. All of it is played out in the California desert, land of false dreams, and yet the result is anything but arid: a searing, bitterly funny, achingly humane book by one of our most talented young writers."— Ann Packer, author ofSongs Without WordsandThe Dive from Clausen's Pier, "The subject of this marvelous novel is nothing less than the soul of the American family, in which love sometimes hides inside estrangement and survival can be a choice made under duress. Synopsis
The debut of an award-winning writer, "Model Home" is a bitterly funny, deeply moving novel about a family reckoning with failure, guilt, and love., Eric Puchner's Music Through the Floor was one of the best-received story collections in years. His debut novel, a sweeping yet intimate story of the American dream in remission, viewed through the microscope of a single family, proves yet again just "how exhilarating it is to come across a young writer as technically gifted and emotionally insightful as Eric Puchner" ( The New York Times Book Review ).. The Zillers-Warren, Camille, and their three children-live the good life in a gated Southern California neighborhood, but the sun-bright veneer hides a starker reality. As Warren desperately tries to conceal a failing real estate venture, his family falls prey to secrets and misunderstandings, both hilarious and painful, that open fault lines in their intimacy. Their misguided attempts to recover their former closeness, or find it elsewhere, lead them into late-night burglary, improbable romance, and strange acts of betrayal. When tragedy strikes, the Zillers are forced to move to one of the houses in Warren's abandoned development in the desert. By turns tender and disturbing, irreverent and profound, Model Home is a masterful display of Eric Puchner's prodigious gifts and penetrating insight-both into the American family and into the imperfect ways we try to connect..

- e***- (122)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufUnfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.
- v***v (2100)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufAlthough this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate. How to chalk talk, by Harlan Tarbell (Nr. 197064259889)
