Traditional fix for all hammer heads.
These cast iron wedges are the traditional item used together with a beach timber wedge, used to fix hammer heads onto ash (traditional) or hickory (more recent introduction) shafts. When fitted correctly they make a very secure method of fastening. If you are competent with tools this is an easy product to use, to create an as manufactured fastening. If not give the job to someone who is!

As with Draper a nice quality item reflecting days gone by. This type of wedge expands the shaft two ways giving a firmer grip in the head. Recommend

Not as advertised
Advertised as ‘ sledge’ hammer wedges but arrived in bag labelled hammer wedges. Wedges far too small for my 14lb sledge. Very disappointed, but will keep them anyway in case I have to replace my regular hammer handle.

There good quality and different sizes. Would recommend. First lot got lost in post but they quickly got second lot out for us.

easily overlooked but definitely needed
bit like trying to rate a nail! But in fact it's worth mentioning these wedges do save the day and the toothed fins secure your hammer head as well as if not better than the original wedge. Worth keeping a few in your tool box if you use a scutch hammer or a dummy for stone carving. PS stick the hammer in the oven for ten minutes, expands the hole the head and dries out the handle a bit, drive in the wedge and when it cools down it's an even tighter fit

I think this is the British style - it's certainly what I've been using for the last *ahem* years. They are just cast wedges - very simple (and hopefully cheaper in bulk) They do the job and they look right - to my eyes, anyway.

Too small for axes, pick axes an sledge hammers.
only good for small hammers and the like.. not for sledge hammers or heavy duty tools.

Hammer wedges
Could not get at hardware shops near me. Even told nobody has need for these as hammer heads now held on with epoxy !! These are the bees knees . Good old school traditional fixings for hammers.
