Historical benefit to understanding the times of Jesus, Jews, and Roman occupation....
This has been on my reading list as a reference source. As a disinterested third party, the historical information helps better understand the times, politics, religion, and culture surrounding the life of Jesus, Israel, and the beginnings no of the Church age.
