  • Should be required reading for all parents!

A positive approach to getting along with kids! I used the original "How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk" when my boys (now 45 and 43) were young. The recommendations worked so well, I used them on my husband--and THAT worked, too! This version for "little" kids was written with humor and compassion (and I'm applying its advice with my grandkids!). It gives suggestions and real-life examples from parents (and the authors) on actions that worked (and what to do if they didn't!). Readers are encouraged to go "back to the drawing board" if something doesn't work--try an optional approach on resolution. Admittedly, at first you have to work (remember) at making changes in your usual reaction to stressful issues; but the best, successful responses ultimately become routine -- and your kids grow up experiencing the love, understanding, character-building, and trust that are the foundations of a happy childhood.

  • Parenting - child rearing

This book was actually a gift that I gave to my daughter. Parenting is not an easy job. The author's mother wrote a similar book 30 years ago which I read 3 times. This is a current edition. The material in the book hasn't changed much. It is a wonderful help for rearing your young children. It is written with great insight, love and kindness. It was a great help to me dealing with all the ups and downs of child rearing. It is a great support to help a parent get through the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of your children through the early years of childhood in a positive way. I highly recommend it.

  • Great read for all parents

So far I’m only a quarter way into this book but it’s been excellent so far. It’s very easy to read and the advise is easy and straightforward to understand and follow. It’s almost like a friend talking to you and the addition of other parent’s stories makes you feel like you’re not alone in this. I’m looking forward to trying some of the tactics from this book with my very active and non-cooperative 2yo son :)
