Helen Mirren delivers a royally stirring performance as Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears's fictional romp, THE QUEEN. But when Diana--her son's ex-wife and the mother of her grandchildren--is killed in a tragic car accident, her authority is tested as never before. While the Queen Mother (Sylvia Syms) and Prince Philip (James Cromwell) agree with her decision to remain at their holiday estate in Balmoral and not publicly acknowledge the tragedy, Tony Blair feels differently. Unfortunately, so do the English people. Making matters worse is the out-of-control media, which has begun to castigate the queen for her silence. In order to retain her grip on the country that she has served for so many years, she must swallow her pride and let the world know that she does, in fact, care.With THE QUEEN, the consistently superior Frears (DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, DANGEROUS LIAISONS) strikes once again. Peter Morgan's devilishly clever script provides the foundation, but the expert performances are what make the film such an exhilarating ride.     FASCINATING LOOK INTO THE LIFE OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

    One of the best portrayals of Queen Elizabeth during some of the most dire of circumstances facing her reign. Her strength, dignity and determination, won her the love and respect of her beloved people and the rest of the world. Miss Mirren was astonishingly powerful in her role, which almost made this feature seem more like a biographical account of her royal majesty's life. Wonderful entertainment for the entire family at a very affordable EBAY price. Luzmarina

    Helen Mitten is so real

    I love the royals. Since living through Diana's death an feeling that grief, this movie showed a much bigger picture. Well done.

    great as expected

    If you loved Princess Diana and are as interested in "the royals" as most of us are, this one is for you. Helen Mirren is simply divine as The Queen, as she is in every role, Michael Sheen is incredible as Tony Blair. Great behind the curtain peeks as to what really happened with the royal family during that horrible week. If you really haven't seen this before, get it now. It's a keeper and one you'll rewatch over and over.
