I believe it broke at a manufacturing seam due to the fact that the package was juggled during shipping, since Item was packaged very well. Seller immediately offered a refund, after I sent photos. Very easy to work with and I appreciated the trust the seller put in me that the item was broken upon receipt and not because I did anything to break the item. Some scale reference in the pictures would have been helpful, like ye olde Morton's Salt box, but -- I'm very pleased with this gorgeous piece for my table. Some bubble wrap would not have gone amiss.
