Does the tasks its designed for at a decent price poiint.
While I am certainly not a craftsman or expert woodworker by any means, I do like to see my work results not be an embarrassment when I finish it. Over the years, I have found that taking the time to measure twice and cut once applies to me A LOT. But not being overly meticulous it has been a problem to adhere to this goal. Having effective, but not pricey tools has been a goal of mine. The INCRA IG32 Gauge seems to fit these goals well. It was not too pricey; its incremental indentations are close enough together to provide close tolerances, yet when setting, easily seen/felt as you slide the two halves against each other to set the desired depth/height. Though plastic, it is the same as several other tools I have had, some for decades that haven't shown any wear or deterioration. THAT shows an effort to provide a long lasting tool at an affordable price. Metal can be scratched or dinged and then becomes defective and/or unattractive. This material hasn't shown any such deficiency in years of use, so I am optimistic this gauge will have a long life, too. The only significant improvement I would like to see is the numbers on the ruled portion black or some contrasting color to the gray of the plastic material. Having worked for a plastic extrusion manufacturer once, I know this would be a MAJOR cost, so I understand the lack thereof. Otherwise it does a good job and I am pleased with my purchase.
