Not for the squeamish! - but an excellent dramatisation of history.
We were not able to watch this series when it was screened on TV, but read so many good reviews that we purchased this box set. I have to say that we are thoroughly enjoying watching the story of the Viking period unfold in a dramatic way - Ragnar Lothbrok is a central figure in the early episodes (we are only up to Season 2), and his leadership in those early expeditions to discover and raid "lands to the west" is riveting viewing - if somewhat bloodthirsty! It would be easy to label the Vikings as savages, or heathens, who pillaged and slaughtered - but that is only part of the story... which is much more complex than that. Recommended viewing!

I love this series
One of the best series I've watched, looking forward to the next season. It's faithful historically, dynamic - and the characters are colourful and really make you care for them.

Excellent BUT
The DVD's are difficult to handle If you pause and start again often you can only get back to where you paused by starting again Skip until you get back to where you were

Predictable and depressing.
It starts out slowly and never really picks up. It does a great job of showing how unpleasant life was back then, but from the point of view of entertainment. I found it very depressing. The cast is excellent, unfortunately however the characters are all very stereotypical. The plot creeps along at a snails pace and the general mood is dreary, cold and wet. Not one I'd recommend.

Don't miss it
Although I bought this for my friend I'm watching it on sky. I'm absolutely hooked, it's got everything - sex, nudity, adultery, violence, cruelty, betrayal, treason, alcohol, drugs, intrigue - I think its brilliant

Fantastic show!
Fantastic show with a mix of historical facts, thrilling drama, bloody battles and great characters. From Ragnars rise to fame and the plotting and doublecrossing along the way to the exploits of his family.

I love it. Great quips. Like the story lines and how they jump about. Bit far fetched but who cares. Entertainment whilst in holiday abroad. Great.

Fantastic
I am a full on Vikings fan to me this is better than Game of Thrones as it is as true to the life and times as is possible and these people actually existed.
